Concert Time!!

The big day of our concert finally arrived on Tuesday, April 20th! The kids have been practicing for weeks, and they were very excited to get to perform their songs for an audience. We walked to the high school in the afternoon for one last rehearsal on the stage in the new auditorium.

OK, let's SING!

We're ready.

Rehearsals can get kind of long.

Carson and Rebecca practiced their lines as they introduced the Dr. Seuss song "Oh the Things You Can Think."

Mrs. Zillgitt directed us.

We had to watch her very closely.

Ally, Lexie, and Gavin played the boom whackers.

We all got to play kazoos.

We learned sign language for one of our songs.

We even made a giant flag at the end of the show! We got to watch the 2nd graders practice their part of the concert, too.
After the rehearsal, we walked back to the elementary school and got ready to go home.

We were back at school by 6:45, all dressed in our class t-shirts. We met in the hall behind the auditorium.

It was hard to wait!

Look at those great smiles!

Is it 7:00 yet?

Finally, Mrs. Zillgitt had us warm up our voices before we walked on-stage.

Once we got on the risers, our teachers had to pass out all of our props (scarves, kazoos, and paper for the flag). We had to be very organized!

It was so much fun to sing for a full house!
Whew! It's all over! We waved and bowed at the very end when the audience clapped for us. The whole show was very fun, and we did an awesome job! Our teachers were sooooo proud of us!
I'm afraid I couldn't get pictures during the actual performance since I was a little busy playing the piano. However, a DVD was made and if you would like to purchase a recording of the whole concert, you can order one for $7.00. Get your orders in as soon as possible. Forms were available at the concert, or contact me at school and I will send you one.
Thanks for coming to the show!

March Students of the Month

Mrs. Giese had a hard time connecting with our class during the last few weeks. Every time she came to present these awards, we were taking a spelling test, at a special class, or at the HS practicing for our concert. Finally, she stopped by when we were available.
Congratulations, belatedly, to our March Students of the Month!!

Good job, Maggie, Lexie, and Carter!

Trip to the Sheldon

We are so lucky to have the Sheldon Theater in Red Wing so close by! Every year, our first graders get to go a live theater production especially geared for children, and this year was no exception.
Excitement was in the air as the kids came in on the big day. We were all set to go on our field trip to see "Seusical, the Musical." We loaded the buses and headed out by 9:15 for a 10:00 show.

"Are we there, yet?"

We had read lots of Dr. Seuss stories during the week, so we were well-prepared to see some of his crazy characters come to life on the stage.

It was hard to wait for showtime!

We even learned to sing one of the songs from the play in Music class.

We'll be performing it at our concert on April 20th!

Unfortunately, I couldn't take any pictures during the performance.

The show was GREAT and the kids were very well-behaved. With Red Wing being so close, we were back to school in time for lunch. What a fun way to spend a morning!
Thanks, too, to Mrs. Reardon for coming along to help keep track of the end of the line!
