Family Fun Night

Tuesday night was the annual PTO sponsored K-1 Family Fun Night. It was well attended by what seemed like hundreds of little kids and their families. After eating pizza, lemonade, and cookies in the lunchroom, the kids headed to the gym where they played beachball volleyball and basketball, jumped rope, and ran around getting hot and sweaty. I think I'll have a lot of tired students tomorrow! I tried to get pictures of everyone from our class who came, but if I missed someone, I apologize! It was pretty hard to catch everyone!

Playground Fun

It was a GORGEOUS day today, and we just had to take advantage of the wonderful weather for some photo ops on the playground!

Here's the whole crew before they were "let loose" to play.

The kids are so lucky to have such great equipment to play on, and they really have a good time exercising all their large muscles as they enjoy the bright sunshine! If only this weather could last awhile longer. I'm afraid winter will be here before we know it, and it will take forever to get everyone bundled up in winter gear for playtime.

Strip Sculptures

We had a great first week of school, and we finished off the week on Friday afternoon by making strip sculptures. First, we learned that a sculpture is a piece of artwork that takes up space instead of being flat. Then, we learned how to use paper strips and glue to make lots of shapes.

We had to share strips with a partner, and we could make our sculptures any way we wanted.

We had to be very patient while we waited for the glue to dry.

Our hands got kind of sticky from the glue, and so did our papers, but fortunately, our hands can be washed, and the glue dries clear.

What a good way to spend the last part of the day! It's fun to be creative!

First Day of School, 2008

The big day finally arrived, and it started out extremely hot and humid! However, we all survived the heat and had a great day! It was quite a shock to feel the cool air when we headed for the buses at the end of the day. Please remind your children about getting on the correct bus. We went over all the bus numbers at the end of the day , but several children somehow ended up on the wrong bus, and it's a long ride to the bus garage to be picked up by parents! Everyone finally made it, and hopefully things will go better on Day 2! These pictures were taken right before morning playtime. What a good-looking bunch of kids!

Parents - Thanks for sending all the school supplies, and have fun filling out all the registration paper-work :-). Please return it to school as soon as possible. Thanks!
