Habitat Dioramas

Diorama Day was a huge success! The kids (and their families) did a great job designing and sharing dioramas of the forest, wetlands, ocean, and desert. The ocean seemed to be the favorite habitat. The dioramas will be on display in the 1-3 Commons area through the end of November, so stop by and see them! Thanks for all of your help!

Curious to know how much time you gave the kids (and parents) for this assignment?

They had about 2 1/2 weeks (3 weekends). Information was sent home on a Friday, and kids could start bringing in completed dioramas on a Wednesday, 1 1/2 weeks later, with Diorama Day on the following Tuesday. It works well to let students start bringing them in early to give some incentive ( and examples) to those who haven't gotten started yet! Kids and families seem to love the project. Look for this year's diorama post next week.

Hello, i am first year teacher who also teaches first grade. I wanted my kids to do diorama as well but thought it was to complicated but looking at your kids (which did an excellent job) I am more interested in assigning this project. If at all possible may I have any information on how you presented this information to the parents and students.

Very impressed with the project your kids did!!
I loved that on some of those you could tell the kids had helped, that's what I'm looking for in my 1st grade class. The first diorama project I assigned, I could tell it was mainly the parents doing it and not the kids.
What kind of instructions did you send to get the student involvement (as it should be).
Would you mind e-mailing me the explanation letter that goes home to parents and the rubric you used to grade them?
I'll appreciate it!!
